REGULAR CLASSES

Our regular curriculum is for ages 6-12. Your children learn in a safe, supervised environment with our trained instructors who specialize in keeping kids motivated and interested while they learn self defense techniques that could last a lifetime. Our class curriculum is full of fun, exciting activities and character development lessons that teach and encourage students to:

- treat themselves and others with respect

- concentrate and always do their best

- serve as a positive role model

- take responsibility for their actions

- be proud of their accomplishments

- accept new challenges

LITTLE DRAGONS

Our Little Dragons program for children ages 4 and 5, focuses on improving listening skills, building self-confidence, self esteem, concentration and discipline while improving motor and coordination skills.

Little Dragon classes are conducted by the same teachers as the regular KYU belt classes and are held throughout the week on Tuesday and Thursday at 5.00pm and Saturday morning at 9:00am.

ADULT CLASSES

Family Karate is pleased to offer programs specifically geared towards adults. Classes run on weekdays at noon to allow for a good workout over the lunch hour as well as in the evening. Come out and experience the camaraderie of working out with your peers, learn the traditions of martial arts and get a great cardio-vascular workout too!

WEAPONS

When the island of Okinawa was occupied by the Japanese in the 17th century, Islanders, by law, were forbiden to carry weapons. In order to protect themselves, the art of karate (empty hand combat) was delevoped. As well, the Islanders learned how to use everyday items as defensive and offensive weapons

The Bo Staff was originally either a walking stick or a yoke used to carry buckets of water

Nunchucks were used as a hand held bridle to ride horses bareback.

Kamas were hand held sythes used to harvest grain.

Escrima was a short staff used to thash rice and other grains
